The suburb

Living in Barrack Point

Barrack Point is a small seaside suburb on the headland between Warilla to the north and Shellharbour Village to the south, with Barrack Heights inland. The entrance to Little Lake, also called Elliott Lake, marks its northern end and separates it from Warilla Beach, while Shellharbour Beach runs south from the point. The explorer George Evans camped here in 1812 on his way to Appin.

Homes are mostly detached houses, some with views of the ocean or of Little Lake, and older ones are steadily being renovated or replaced. Small new projects are appearing too, such as a group of four townhouses finished on Headland Parade in 2025. Buyers here are usually after the beaches on either side and tend to know the area already.

Living here

A headland between two beaches

The point is the attraction. Barrack Reserve is on Headland Parade, Warilla Beach and the Warilla-Barrack Point surf club are just north across the entrance to Little Lake, and Shellharbour Beach, patrolled at both ends in summer, runs south toward the village. The Surfrider Caravan Park sits opposite Shellharbour Beach, and Addison Street's cafes and the harbour are within walking distance along the beach.

Barrack Heights Public School, Shellharbour Public School and Warilla High School are all close by. Warilla Grove and Stockland Shellharbour cover the shopping, and Shellharbour Hospital is in Mount Warrigal. For trains, Oak Flats and Shellharbour Junction are both a short drive, and the M1 Princes Motorway begins at Oak Flats for the run north to Wollongong and Sydney.

Selling

Selling in Barrack Point

Barrack Point is small, and homes come up less often than in the suburbs around it. Price turns on the view, on distance to the beaches and Little Lake, and on whether an older house is worth renovating or the block is worth more for a new build. We sell here from our office in Shell Cove, a short drive south.

Renting it out instead? We manage rental homes in Barrack Point too, where houses in the postcode lease for around $700 a week.
