Living in Tullimbar
Tullimbar sits below the Illawarra escarpment, west of Albion Park and east of Macquarie Pass National Park. Hazelton and Cooback creeks, both feeding the Macquarie Rivulet, run through it. Tullimbar is an old name in the district, but the suburb itself was only created in 2016, around Tullimbar Village, a master-planned development begun in 2000 on about 90 hectares of land.
The original developer sold more than 300 home sites before retiring, and later stages have been taken on by others, including the 1881 Tullimbar release, named after the year the district's first school was built. Most homes are recent detached houses, with townhouses and some apartments in the newer stages. The first plan was a walkable village with its own shops, and the village centre has been through several rounds of plans since.
