Living in Jamberoo
Jamberoo is a village about 11 kilometres inland from Kiama, in the valley the Minnamurra River drains through, with Stockyard Mountain to the north, Jamberoo Mountain to the west and Saddleback Mountain to the south. It was settled after land grants in the 1820s, joined the Kiama Municipality in 1954, and the district is where the Illawarra Shorthorn dairy breed has its roots.
The village has kept its country character. Older cottages and the Tudor-fronted Jamberoo Pub sit in the centre, newer homes have gone up in streets such as Churchill Street and Tate Place, and the Golden Valley estate has added more, with its developer encouraging weatherboard cottage designs. Around the village, dairy farms and acreage run up the sides of the valley.

A village under the escarpment
The Jamberoo Pub, built in 1857 and run by the Warren family since 1987, is the village meeting place, with live music and strong support for local clubs. Jamberoo Public School is a small K-6 school with its own garden and hens, and Kiama Council runs an outdoor summer pool in Allowrie Street. Jamberoo Action Park, the family-owned water park, opens between September and April.
West of the village, Jamberoo Mountain Road climbs past the Benedictine abbey towards Robertson in the Southern Highlands, and Minnamurra Falls Road leads off it to the Minnamurra Rainforest Centre in Budderoo National Park, with raised walkways through the rainforest. The mountain road has had long closures after landslips, so it is worth checking before a trip. Kiama, with the station and larger shops, is the nearest town, and buses run between the two.

Selling
Selling in Jamberoo
Jamberoo has two markets. In the village, buyers pay for character, a level block and an easy walk to the pub, the school and the pool, and new homes in the recent estates compete with older cottages. On the farms and acreage around it, the land, water, views to the escarpment and what the zoning allows set the value. We price the two separately, and our office is at Shell Cove.
“It's five minutes back to the Jamberoo town centre and 15 minutes from Albion Park, Shellharbour and Kiama.”
Renting it out instead? We manage rental homes in Jamberoo too, where houses in the postcode lease for around $830 a week.
