Kiama real estate

NSW 2533 · Kiama Municipal Council · About 10 km from our Shell Cove office

Kiama is the town the municipality takes its name from, on the coast south of Bombo, with Saddleback Mountain rising behind it. It grew around its harbour, which was dug out from 1876 so larger steamers could come in, and around the basalt quarries that brought workers here in the 1870s and 1880s. The timber terraces built for those quarry workers still stand in Collins Street, restored and now let as shops and cafes.

Housing runs from nineteenth-century cottages and terraces close to the centre, to units near the beaches, to family homes on the streets that climb away from the coast. It is a working town with a year-round community of locals, families and retirees, and holiday rentals are part of the mix, particularly close to the water and the town centre.

Living here

The blowhole, the harbour and the beaches

Most days here start or finish by the water. The blowhole on Blowhole Point and the 1887 lighthouse beside it draw visitors all year, the harbour has its fishing boats and a rock pool on each side of the entrance, and Black Beach and Surf Beach are a short walk from the shops. The weekly farmers' market sets up in Coronation Park beside Surf Beach, and the Kiama Coast Walk follows the shoreline north to the Minnamurra River and south towards Gerringong.

Terralong Street holds the shops, cafes and galleries and the old pink post office, and Hindmarsh Park, reopened in 2024, has a new playground. Kiama Public School and Kiama High School are both in town, along with the Kiama Leisure Centre and its heated pool. Kiama station is where the electric South Coast Line trains to Wollongong and Sydney end, and diesel trains run on from here to Gerringong, Berry and Bomaderry.

Selling

Selling in Kiama

Kiama prices move with the view and the walk to the water. A home with an ocean outlook, or one an easy stroll from the harbour and Terralong Street, can be worth a good deal more than a similar house further up the hill, and heritage controls and the age of a home matter here too. We price from recent sales in the same pocket of town, and our office is just up the coast at Shell Cove.

Renting it out instead? We manage rental homes in Kiama too, where houses in the postcode lease for around $830 a week.
