Living in Berry
Berry is a country town in the north of the Shoalhaven, at the foot of the hills between Gerringong and Nowra. European settlement began in 1822 under Alexander Berry and Edward Wollstonecraft, and from 1825 it was the private estate town of Broughton Creek, renamed Berry around 1890. Timber and dairying built it, and today visitors are a large part of the town's economy.
Many of Berry's buildings are heritage listed, and the streets around Queen Street mix old cottages with newer homes. Around the town, the land climbs to rainforest ridges and farms at Berry Mountain, Woodhill and Bundewallah, and falls away to farmland on the flats towards the Shoalhaven River, so much of the property around Berry is acreage rather than town blocks.

Living here
Queen Street and the country around it
Queen Street is the heart of the town: the Berry Museum in the former ES&A Bank, the old CBC bank, the Great Southern Hotel and the Berry Hotel, with cafes and shops in between. Since the Princes Highway bypass opened in 2017, through traffic no longer runs down the main street. The showground on Alexandra Street hosts the Berry Show each February, and walkers head up Woodhill Mountain Road for the Drawing Room Rocks track.
Berry Public School began as Broughton Creek School in 1860, and its original building is now the school library. Berry station, on Station Road, is on the South Coast Line, with diesel trains north to Kiama for connections to Wollongong and Sydney, and south to Bomaderry. Nowra, across the Shoalhaven River to the south, is the main centre for larger shopping and services.

Selling
Selling in Berry
Berry has two kinds of buyers: people wanting a house or cottage within walking distance of Queen Street, and people wanting land. In town, heritage character, a level block and the walk to the shops shape price; on acreage, the land, water, access and zoning count for more than the house. We work across the Berry district from our office at Shell Cove and price from comparable sales of each kind.
Renting it out instead? We manage rental homes in Berry too, where houses in the postcode lease for around $800 a week.
